Mega Avalanche Training

Mega Avalanche and Gravity Enduro Training WeeksLucy Ayres Mega Avalanche

The popularity of ‘Gravity Enduro’ style races has boomed in the past few years due to the way in which riders can race friends and other competitors in events that often mimic the type of riding that they would do themselves anyway.

The Mega Avalanche is renowned as one of the hardest mountain bike races in the world. Starting at 3300 meters at the summit of Pic Blanc in Alp D’Huez, 100s of riders at a time slip, slide, skid and role their way down through ice, snow, rocks, dusty single track and forests to the finish line at 717 meters in Bourg D’Oisans.  Even though many people strive for high placing in this event for prestige and boasting rights, many are ill prepared for the event itself. No volume of UK riding, fitness, sprints or gym time can prepare you adequately for what’s in store.

Mountain Bike Holiday Les Arcs France
At The Mountain Bike Chalet we have the perfect location and facilities to get budding mega racers and those wishing to take their gravity enduro racing to the next level.

Why you should stay with The Mountain Bike Chalet before you race the Mega Avalanche:

  • Qualified and experienced Guides who have all experienced a variety of gravity endurance events including the Mega Avalanche, Avalanche Enduro, Garbonzo DH and Fort William Endurance DH.
  • The start of the Mega is at 3300 m.
    • Many people haven’t even been this high before, let alone raced at this altitude.
    • We have tracks that start at 2800 m which are often into the snow line in the weeks leading up to the Mega. This is an excellent chance to not only acclimatise but practise riding in snow.
  • The finish of the Mega is at 717 m having descended over 2500 m in one go.
    • We have tracks that finish at the bottom of lift system (Bourg St Maurice 800 m) meaning there is around 2000 m of vertical descending to be done in one continuous run.
    • Huge variety of terrain can be packed into one descent including: smooth singletrack, rock gardens, switchbacks, roots, jumps, drops and snow
    • No climbing necessary… although some can be added to simulate the race profile.

What We Offer in Your Mega Avalanche Training Week:

  • Fully catered Chalet holiday…breakfast, lunch and three course evening meal, so no need to cook or wash up after a hard day riding
  • A Choice of Five en suite bedrooms
